I LOVE cinnamon and mint with meat, so I was excited to make this main dish from Simply in Season. Luckily I was not disappointed.
FOR PRINTABLE VERSION CLICK HERE: Turkey Lentil Pilaf
1 lb ground turkey
1 cup onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
3 Tbs fresh mint leaves
1 1/2 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp pepper
1 cup dried lentils (sorted, rinsed, and drained)
3/4 cup brown rice
2 cups broth (turkey, chicken, or veg)
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1. Cook ground turkey over medium heat until all pink has disappeared, 5 minutes.
2. Add onion and garlic and cook until tender, about 5 minutes.
3. Add mint, cinnamon, and pepper and cook 2 minutes.
4. Add remaining ingredients. Bring to a boil, reduce heat, and simmer until rice is cooked, about 50 minutes.
Servings: 6
The verdict: This reminds me very much of an Indian ground beef recipe that I tried last summer. The instructor said that adding mint to meat dishes make it better for your doshas in the summer. Not sure how that all works – all I know is I love the unique combination of flavors!

This is an interesting recipe. I’ve been meaning to make something with turkey in it but I’ve never stumbled something that catches my fancy. This one does. Worth a try, methinks.
