Celebrating #NationalWalkingDay +Marathon Training Update

Signs of spring: I was out on a run and had to stop to take a photo of violets growing in the ditch. There is beauty everywhere, if only we look for it.

This week the American Heart Association celebrates National Walking Day, and I am celebrating walking too, although in a different way than you might expect. I’m training for three spring marathons in an attempt to earn the Marathon Maniacs title. Unfortunately the training has not been going according to plan so I am planning to walk some of it. Last year at my first marathon I ended up walking the last half because of IT Band issues, and I still finished by the cutoff time, so I’m not too worried.

It’s a tradition at The Weekly Wrap to share how the training for the previous week has done. Yesterday was my longest run before the marathon, a 20 miler!

This is me wondering if I’m going to make it the whole 20 miles, wondering why in the h*$@ I signed up for a marathon, much less 3. But I got a second wind and a nice runner told me good job when he was passing me. Normally I assume “good job” is code for my goodness you’re slow and fat and old. But for some reason I believed him. And ran the rest of the way home.

As I shared on Instagram, it was not an easy one. But I did it!

On Friday I did a 7 miler, which was supposed to be a 10 miler, but I just wasn’t feeling it. I was reminded that I really need to work on cleaning up my diet (clean eating challenge coming up anyone?)

Garmin battery died on yesterday’s run, I thought it saved but can’t seem to sync it. #runnerproblems I earned that 7 miler, dang it! Lol. Wasn’t feeling it so cut it a bit short when the battery was dying. 7 is less than 10 but it’s still more than zero!

The 4 miler I did on Tuesday was a bit better, I was able to keep an 11:42 pace which is good for me these days.

Wow that’s impressive! I’m currently registered for two marathons but 5 months apart. I don’t know that I could do all that back to back marathon training! I’m trying to reach a new level in the half fanatics, so running a bunch of those haha.

yeah, I think I’m a little crazy. We wanted to do Illinois because my brother in law lives there and he wanted to do his first marathon. Then I was like oh, I’d like to do Bayshore again. And then my husband pointed out that we just had to do one more within the 90 day period to qualify for marathon maniacs. I just checked out the half fanatics, looks like I will qualify for Neptune. Hmm, now I’m re looking at my race calendar lol.

Wow! Three marathons is very impressive. I’m a half fanatic but have never looked to see what the requirements were for marathon maniac. Congrats for getting in that 20 miler! That’s always such a milestone during a training cycle. Thanks for linking, Wendy!

I JUST learned about the half fanatics! I wish I’d known that before my husband talked me into doing the Marathon Maniacs haha.

Funny what we’ll do to join clubs. (I ran two marathons in the same weekend to qualify for Marathon Maniacs. I will never go higher LOL)

whoah! I am toying with the idea of running 40 miles at an ultra weekend (Run Woodstock in Michigan). Not sure I could do a back to back marathon though. The 40 miles would be spread out over three days.
