Yes, there really is a book with the title You Don’t Have to Wear Hemp Underwear. When the publisher contacted me about doing a review and giveaway, I was a bit skeptical. But I couldn’t resist the title.
From the publisher:
You know, you get it- the world is the only planet we have. Seems like we should pay a little attention to the way we treat it and the resources it provides. Really, no matter what you love to do- fish, hike, read, travel, watch TV, watch football, or watch the snow fall – almost all our in actions require resources from our planet. But admit it, you’re getting tired of hearing all the same advice with the snarky attitude that “if you don’t do it my way, the world will implode and it will all be your fault.”
The author, Robin Pharo, has extensive professional experience in sustainability and understands that one solution does not fit all when it comes to earth-friendly practices.
The most fun part of this book is a quiz you take to find out if you are an Earth Hugger, a Tech Master, Biker Mentalist, Eco Camo, Life Long Scout, Sub Lime or Retro Eco. (I’m equal parts Earth Hugger and Sub Lime). Then Pharo takes you through the areas of food, business and work, household and personal care, clothing, transportation, building and remodeling, and travel and provides practical tips, highlighting those of special interest to various personalities.
Of course the first area was food, and I found myself a bit taken aback when she talked about the lunchbox waste and juice boxes being OK for some people. I think I’m so used to being green in this area that I forget small steps for me are big for others. But in other areas, where I had previously hung my head in shame (driving my Eclipse to work instead of taking my bike, for example), I felt like I was given permission to keep driving my car but maybe think about being more green in other areas.
If you’re already pretty green, you won’t learn much. But if you’re only green in one area or just getting started because it all seems so overwhelming, this book is for you.

Baby steps are good. Even if you can’t be “perfectly green”, doing better is still better.

My husband and I are getting ready to move back to the States after living in Europe. It will be a big lifestyle change and I’m not sure what will be realistic practices to continue and what will be good new habits to adopt… This book sounds like it could be a big help in finding balance in a new situation.

I feel my family is fairly green, but I know we have a ways to go in many areas, and I am always trying to improve. I’d love to learn more!

while my husband and I do relatively well in comparison to our typical peers in their mid-20s we are very much beginners to green living beyond the obvious things that everyone should know. I’m sure this book would provide many ideas that we haven’t even heard of.

Ha! I love the concept of your personality-environment profile. I am anxious to see what I am, although I can try a good guess. The title alone is an inviting read.

Yup…I’m just the slightest shade of “green”. Would love to win this!

I’d like to win because even though we try to be green and respect the universe, there’s so much more we need to learn. I’m certain this book contains very important information.
