Weight has been heavy on my mind lately. I make a good start on a new diet, do well, then for some reason or another get derailed. I’m not really sure why.
I took a test when I was on Weight Watchers (I think the second time) and it told me that the reason I don’t stick with losing weight is that I don’t believe I can. Why do I continue to hold this belief? I have no idea. In my head I know it’s possible. I’ve done it before. I also know what I have to do. Why do I lack the willpower? Am I just lazy?
I know I’m taking a risk posting about this again. I know some of my dear readers will write to me and suggest the GAPS diet, the Paleo diet, going gluten free, going vegan, or whatever has worked for them or what they’ve read online. I’m pretty sure that the underlying issue is about more than just which diet to follow, however. So I’m excited to be taking part in a teleseminar titled “Empower Your Eating: Six Weeks to a Healthier, Happier Body Image.”
I met the instructor, Laura Burkett, at one of our local Slow Food Meetings. She received her training as a Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and has also studied at the Institute for the Psychology of Eating. In exchange for posting about my experience, she is letting me take the seminar, and I’d love it if you would consider joining me.
Here’s the schedule:
1-hour Weekly Tele-classes June 5th-July 10th
Class #1: Tuesday, June 5th 7:00pm ET – What’s Your Body Image Style?

- Weight Loss, naturally as a result of a healthier relationship with food
- Clarity and empowerment around the nemesis we call food
- Reclaiming your “sexy” and feeling vibrant and beautiful
- More confidence in your own skin
- Self-care and Self-love becoming non-negotiable
- Learning what showing up in your own body really feels like
I can’t wait to share with you how this impacts my life!

That’s great! I’ve also worked with another health coach that graduated from IIN – Katie at RootedWellbeing.com. Katie is starting an 8-week program soon called Love Yourself Sexy! I’ve had great results with Katie’s cleanses and personal coaching. Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement, Lissa!

The problem with most diets is we focus on the limitations (and many diets have a LOT). I recently started a ‘diet’ that closely resembles what diabetics are suppose to eat. However, this time I did not start it to lose weight and it has been liberating. Eating right to just eat right is an AMAZING thing! (Of course I have a reason for doing this, I have PCOS and a healthy diet/exercise is pretty much the recommended management of it. And I’m in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy so I SHOULD be eating healthy…) However, eating healthy without the goal of losing weight (part of my goal was to stop gaining SO much though… Let’s just say I’m over the 25 lbs recommended for pregnancy at 30 weeks.) has been liberating. I feel like I’m doing it for me, not for what other people will say when they see me losing weight.

Great advice – and blessings on your pregnancy!

I’ve started losing weight after winning a battle with Breast Cancer. Like you, I have started diet program after diet program. Until I really wanted to get healthy, I failed. Now I eat pretty much what I want only I use the Low Glycemic Index as a guide to what I eat. I’ve read several books on the subject and it is so easy to eat this way. No sweets of course. No white flours. But just those food that do not raise your blood sugars quickly. It’s a lot like the diet a diabetic would follow. Low carbs, low GI. If I go off the plan one day, I can go right back on it the next. I have given myself at least a year to lose my 80 pounds. If it takes longer, it’s okay. I didn’t gain the weight quickly. Only gained after a devastating divorce after 35 years of marriage. If I can do it, anyone can. I know you’ll do just fine. I really believe you have to want to lose for yourself, not for anyone else. I just want to be healthy again.
