Ultimate Blog Party 2010

Welcome! Whether you’re visiting from the Blog Party or a regular, come on in. I’m so glad to be participating in this year’s Blog Party. It’s a great way to meet other bloggers and new online friends. (You can also win prizes – I’d love the amazon, restaurant, or camping gear gift cards!)

Can I offer you a cup of coffee? Or hot cocoa?

Or maybe you’d like something stronger, like a pomegranate martini, Michigan wine, or some of Dear Husband’s award-winning homebrew?  (I call him DH around here)

Can I tempt you with some sunflower raisin cookies or hazelnut espresso brownies?

(Go for the brownies, virtual calories don’t count!)

Don’t mind me as I move that huge stack of cookbooks – I’m kind of a book and cookbook junkie. I’ve recently joined a Slow Food Book club which is super fun. See that ratty looking cookbook on the top of the stack? That’s Simply in Season, and I’m trying to cook every recipe in it by the end of August. I was drowning in vegetables from my CSA (Community Supported Agriculture, where you get 1-2 bags of produce every week from a farm), and I thought you know, I really need to cook more. Simply in Season has tons of great recipes in it, why don’t I try to cook from that instead of hunting through my many, many cookbooks? Then I heard about Julie & Julia, and thought I’d start a blog.

What a fun adventure it’s been! Simply in Season also includes little stories and anecdotes and essays about eating locally, in season. Besides taste, there are lots of great reasons to do so – especially from a biblical perspective. In order to explore those issues I’ve started a Food & Faith Challenge. I hope you can join us.

    Wendy,

    Thanks for keeping it REAL local. I have been trying to do the same since my move, but it is hard. The “farmers” here get their produce from a store or another “farmer” and local is more than six hours away for them. I miss the availability and local of the California markets.

    That is great you working your way through a cook book and one that focuses on cooking in season items. I have one that I regularly use and I thought about cooking through it, but some items I know I would never eat.

    It is great that you include the nutrition info because I know that is really useful information to some people. I wouldn’t know where to begin to include that w/the recipes I share.

    Yes. I’ll take you up on that hot cocoa. I’ve been looking for one made from scratch. I will look through your recipes (there are many) and see what other yummy dishes I can find.

    Thanks for coming by my blog. As a Pastor’s Wife… usually the first questions someone outside of our church asks – if I do any of those three 🙂

    I would love to sing but alas… I can’t sing in key, I only took a couple of years of piano and wished my parents had forced me to do more and yes… I have taught Sunday school but with 4 small kids of my own… I needed a break.

I joined a csa in their first year so there were only a few vegetable deliveries and I still got overwhelmed. I’ve got plenty to learn.

I would join a CSA but I don’t think they do that here. But at least there’s a big weekly farmers’ market! I’m going to follow your blog.

    Absolutely ? everything about your site! To start off with, Food & Faith challenge? How awesome! I’ll take the coffee and brownie. Ugh, I think I gained 10 just from reading this one post. I love veggies sooo much. I just recently started putting avacado on every single sandwich! My boys on the other hand are under the impression that their death is at hand if a veggie makes its way onto their plate.

    And, you’re from Michigan?! Yes! The “MI Wine” reference sent me searching your About page thinking, “Can it be? Another sweet MI foodie blogger?” And it sure can be. Even better, you’re probably literally down the road. We’re also in the greater GR metro area, and we were discussing using the same CSA you do just the other day because it’s relatively close.
