- Cost. Sure, it’s probably not as cheap as the 99 cent Wonderloaf, but if you compare it to artisan loaves from a bakery it’s a real bargain.
- Smell. While it’s baking, your house smells WONDERFUL. It’s like a home makeover for a few hours.
- Taste. There’s nothing like fresh bread straight out of the oven.
- Nutrition. No weird additives or chemicals in it. Just things you add and know how to spell.
- Time. It’s the perfect way to schedule a little “me” time. Even though it really only takes a few minutes of active time, you can take a bubble bath or read or drink some wine while it’s doubling or resting. If anyone calls and wants you to do something, you can apologize and explain that you just can’t, you’re in the middle of baking bread.
- Stress Relief. Had a bad day or week? Skip the Kitchen Aid or food processor and take it out on the dough, not the kids or your spouse.
- It makes a great gift. Don’t know what to get your hard-to-shop-for mother in law? A homemade loaf is sure to impress.
- Impress your friends. Especially those who don’t bake, the fact that you make your own bread makes you sound very domestic and talented.
- Express your creativity. You can add any herbs you want, and there are endless variation and types of flours.
- What’s yours?

My original reason for learning to bake bread was to learn a new-to-me skill. I wanted my children to know what bread fresh from he oven tasted like!
A great friend and I decided to learn together, and now know the meaning of breaking bread.
The lessons keep coming!

Haha,I love #5.
People think you are soooo amazing when you bake bread, it really cracks me up. Although the Martha Stewart comments can get old. Anyone can do it!

All of the above! I love making my own bread….actually, I love the whole bread-making process. From start to finish, I love it all! And the variety! You can change up your every day bread to something extra special by adding some herbs, garlic, different flours, etc.
And I would love a gift of someone else’s home made bread. Who wouldn’t?

My husband is the bread baker in our house so I can’t call it stress relief or “me time” (though I do get some time to myself while he’s off baking!). People are thrilled to receive bread as a gift, and I love knowing that it isn’t full of chemicals and preservatives.

My reasons are:
Smell
Taste
Experimentation (I love trying new combinations)
Nutrition (I feel better about them because I know what goes into them!)
Stress Relief
Plus the delicious first bite of fresh made bread.

I love baking bread, the smell alone is good enough for me. But I really do it so I know what’s going into it. No preservatives or strange ingredients in my bread.

Baking bread on a regular basis is something to which I’ve always aspired… but have never achieved. Thanks for the encouragement! It’s bringing me closer to that decision I know I want to make!

Oh, this is my goal this month. There is a local bakery next to our house that does bread making classes combined w/grinding your own wheat, etc. I’m so excited!
