I was so excited when my friend Katie, who blogs at Kitchen Stewardship, told me she was writing a book about beans. When I finally got a copy to review, I wasn’t disappointed! Best of all, she’s letting me give away two copies of this ebook to my readers!
You might remember how I cooked beans in my pressure cooker, or the recipe for Beef and Bean Stew a la Tuscany last week.
I know you’re going to love The Everything Beans Book. Katie tells you . . . well, everything about beans. Such as:
- Why are they healthy?
- How do I cook with dry beans?
- How do I cook and store in bulk?
- What about picky eaters (the bean haters of the world)?
- How do I avoid gas?
- How do I get past the texture?
- And of course, 30 recipes from appetizer to dessert, all spotlighting the most frugal and nourishing food I know: beans.
Congrats to our Everything Beans E-book winners Julie from Lady Locavore and Jessica from Jessica’s Foodie Blog! For those who didn’t win, Katie is offering my readers 20% off! Just use the discount code LOCALCOOK20 (expires April 30).

My favorite kind of bean is Cannellini. They usually have thinner skin and can help create a great meal in minutes (especially if they’re low-sodium and canned) ranging from hummus to beans and potatoes with tuna.
Amy
Beans. Period. I love beans. They are even better with bacon :).
Frances
My favorite beans are butter beans because they taste a little like they have ham in them. I add some hickory smoke and eat them with greens and cornbread. Yummy!
Frances
I think one of the first things we would make would be the pasta with bean sauce. Or maybe the chickpea wraps! I like them because they are more unique than your typical meatless bean dishes.

It’s way too hard to choose a favorite bean altogether because we’ve been growing and drying a few heirloom beans to sample different varieties over the last 2 gardening seasons…they are all so fun and unique ! I think my favorite everyday bean would have to be navy beans…we use them most often and everyone likes them. I’d love to win the giveaway and come up with more ways to use these cool beans we are growing ! Thanks for the giveaway.

I think the recipe I’d want to try most is dosas…I’ve read about them a few times now and have been wanting to try them !
Julie
I love Tiger Eye a variety of heritage bean. They are a burnt orange and red colour, so pretty, So buttery and good.

I make a lot of beans & rice with red kidney beans and also some casseroles with corn tortillas, cheese, tomatoes and black beans. Terrible things happen with I try to cook with dried beans, so I would love this book to help me learn how to do that. I know dried would help save money and space in my pantry! I am a reformed bean hater. Love them now!

Hmm….hard to pick just one variety of bean. I love so many. I guess black beans would rank high up on the list.

Right now my favorite bean is the pinto bean. We just harvested our first crop of them last fall, and I wonder where they have been all my life? So tasty, and great for refried beans…
Lona
And I would like to try the Cuban black beans and rice. When we’re selling beans at the farmer’s market, people tell us over and over again how much they love black beans and rice. Have to confess I’ve never had it.
Very timely giveaway! Thank you!
kate

I love lots of different kinds of beans, but since we can only pick one, I would say flageolets. It’s a hard choice though. They are all so good and healthy.

Would love to try the veggie bean burritos! Soups sound good too, and the pasta with white bean sauce sounds interesting!
Kristin Celeste
I adore lentils for their high iron and protein content as one cup cooked lentils packs a powerful 18 grams of protein and 37% of your daily iron.
I would enjoy trying the “Pasta with White Bean Sauce” as is as well as adapted for lentils.
Cheers-
Kristin Celeste
Erin
