The Curse of Week 2 {#31Days}

You are here: Home / Weight Loss / The Curse of Week 2 {#31Days}
January 14, 2011 by Wendy Hammond

I wish I could give you a grand update on my weight loss; unfortunately, I'm only down half a pound. HALF A POUND. It's frustrating. Part of me feels like I should have lost more; I did so well on my calories. I didn't work out as I'd hoped, but I thought I'd have lost more than half a pound.

I wish I could give you a grand update on my weight loss; unfortunately, I’m only down half a pound. HALF A POUND. It’s frustrating. Part of me feels like I should have lost more; I did so well on my calories. I didn’t work out as I’d hoped, but I thought I’d have lost more than half a pound.

Some of my FaceBook Friends said there’s a well-known Week 2 Curse on Biggest Loser, so I shouldn’t feel too bad. It would be really easy to wallow in my not-losing and give up. But I can’t do that, so I am going to instead focus on what I HAVE accomplished:

  1. I have lost 4 1/2 pounds total.
  2. I DID work out on Sunday, and gave it my all.
  3. I managed to read and review three books for my blogs this week.
  4. I posted every. single. day. on my second blog, http://eatlocalwestmichigan.com.
  5. I stayed right around my calorie target every day for the past two weeks, with one cheat meal.
  6. I only had alcoholic beverages one night, with my cheat meal. Even when DH had some and it looked so good!
  7. We only got Thai food takeout once this past week.
  8. I went out to one of my favorite restaurants and managed to get only hot tea and a Mediterranean salad.
  9. I still kept entering and counting even though the scale was not going down.
  10. I posted this update, even though I was disappointed that I didn’t lose more.

As part of my agreement with Collective Bias, I also did a Whrrl about my shopping experience last Saturday: http://whrrl.com/e/iEYRI

It’s amazing the difference in selection between WalMarts!

Well, that’s all for today. Hope to have a better report next week.

    You are doing great. Wow, 3 books in a week I wish I could do that. Sounds like you are one busy girl and congrats on blogging every day on your blogs. It sounds like you deserved a cheat night, the Mediterranean salad sounds really good. Course so does a margarita about now. I’m loving your recipes and going to try to make some for the family. Thanks for posting them. I haven’t actually seen Biggest Loser yet (new to having cable) but I meant to this week and missed after the teams were picked. 🙁 I’ll have to see if they have it on the net. I have heard of there being a curse of losing nothing or the opposite and lose it the first week and gain a pound or two the second. Looks around and knocks on wood. 🙂 Either way you should be proud that you are sticking to it. 😉

      @homemom3:

      Last I checked, you can watch Biggest Loser on nbc.com and on hulu.com for free (Hulu may have changed, but I think it is still free on NBC).

    Updates are a great way to hold yourself accountable for your goals!

    I also allow myself to get Thai takeout once a week for lunch at work. Portions are enormous though, so I’ve started to grab a to-go container before I start eating and set half aside. Then I get to have the delicious food twice 🙂

    MAJOR props to ordering a hot tea and med.salad at your fav restaurant. i bet that was really hard. whenever i go to my favorite place i feel like i HAVE to order the best of the best. so to be able to say “okay, i will just order simple today, which doesnt mean i can NEVER have the other stuff again, but right now i just want something more simple” .. that takes a lot of strength and self-reflection. good job! <3

      I have to say, the salad WAS good so it wasn’t too much of a sacrifice 🙂 I do allow myself one cheat meal a week but I knew the weekend was still to come.

    I think you are doing great. I’m in the same place as you. So.. don’t feel bad and don’t give up. I think that is what happens so often is that we get discouraged and say.. the heck with it… But we wont’ let you. Look at the changes you have made towards the positive! Keep that chin up! Can’t wait to see how week 3 goes.

    Hi there. Loosing weight IS hard but very much worth it. Keep trying. It has taken me FOREVER to loose 45lbs. (“forever” as in two and a half years), but I have never gained anything back and I’m still loosing (I have about 25 more lbs. to go), because I’ve done it slowly by learning and incorporating healthy habits. You’ll get to where you want to be, keep trying! And someone said it in an earlier comment, shedding 1/2 lb. is better than gaining :D.

    Eat three meals a day, cut out all carbs, not kidding, no pasta, bread, rice, cereal. Eat protein and veggies, believe me you will lose weight. No booze, no dessert. Go ahead and snack, cheese, humus, olives, peanut butter ( minimal) lots of water, decaf tea, coffee, use stevia if you like it works. I lost 40 lbs.
