This is the summer of outdoor projects. We’ve spent the last two weekends working on this deck, and some time during the week too! The weekend before that we put up a new privacy fence.
I’m so glad DH used to be a builder – we saved a TON of money on this project! I have really enjoyed learning how to do construction.

Next up is taking on the landscaping. Now that we have a privacy fence, the “overgrown” look is so not cool. I have let that area grow on its own to see what comes up. Motherwort, money plant, Virginia creeper, and snow on the mountain. Here’s what I have to deal with:

As you can see, we have lots of work ahead of us. I have read about permaculture and edible landscaping, but part of me thinks by the time I get that researched it will be next year! So I’m debating whether to just clear everything out, add some hostas and other shade perennials, and add edibles in at a later time.
I should also mention that I’m on week three of our CSA and loving it! It’s so nice to have lettuce and stir fry vegetables on hand – great for whipping up quick stir fry or wraps on nights when we are working outside and need something fast.
What have you been working on this summer?
What's on your mind?
