I posted before about how I’m taking an empowered eating class through Real Food Wellness. One of our assignments was to name three non-related activities that we enjoy. I had a real struggle!
Gardening? Food related. Blogging? Food related, both of ’em. Work? Sort of food related–the organization for which I work is involved in many food security projects. Spending time with friends? That usually involves food and drink. Yikes!
So I thought I’d take this opportunity to share about three things that are NOT related to food that I’m excited about in my life.
Pedal Bikes
You’ll see why I’m specifying pedal bikes in a minute. For now, DH and I are preparing for a two day bicycle tour in northern Michigan. I’m really glad it’s only 35 miles each way because it’s been super hot and we haven’t been practicing as much as we should have. Next week Friday we’ll be driving up to Indian River for the Michigander Bicycle Tour. We’ll camp for the night, bike up to Mackinaw City, camp again, then ride back to Indian River on Sunday. Monday we’ll be recovering and then bright and early Tuesday morning I head to . . .
Honduras
I’m really looking forward to going to Honduras for work. I’ve only been there once before, and that was for a volunteer training workshop so I didn’t get out to visit the villages. This time around I’ll be working on a global partnership program evaluation so I’ll get to spend some time out in the countryside. I’ll be gone for less than a week, but I suspect that spending time in nature without being constantly connected electronically will do my soul some good. I’ll post from there if I can but otherwise expect to hear all about it when I return!
Motorcycles
If I can’t get into a motorcycle safety class this weekend, I’ll be taking one as soon as I return from Honduras. DH rode to the U.P. (that’s the upper peninsula for non-Michiganders; it’s the part above the Mackinaw bridge) and got it into his head that he’d like to do more touring and that it would be more comfortable if we each had our own bike. I really liked the idea so now he’s bike shopping and I’m calling around trying to get into a class so I can get my endorsement. Did I ever think that I’d become a motorcycle driver and owner? Not really, but I’m pretty excited about it!
I know absolutely nothing about motorcycles, so whenever DH sends me links to Craigslist or dealership pages my replies are usually “that windshield looks dorky,” or “I want something less transformer-looking.”
Have I mentioned lately how much I love my DH? He is so cute. Insisting that I get the proper gear, be very safe, and he helps around the garden and house too. What a sweetie!
So there you have it, three things going on that are NOT food related. What’s going on with you?

It all sounds pretty cool to me! During all that you’ll be eating so everything is food related. 🙂
