For today’s nourishing act, I mailed in the deposit for Groundswell Farm CSA.
You might remember that I was on a sabbatical last summer when the CSA I was a part of (Trillium Haven Farm) took a sabbatical to open a restaurant. I was tired of performing vegetable triage. I wanted to have the freedom to go to the farmers market and buy whatever looked good.
Unfortunately, I found it much easier to sleep in on Saturdays than fight the crowds at the farmers market most weekends. We ate a LOT fewer vegetables. I lost my inspiration for cooking. My garden was an epic failure (except for the beans and tomatoes). So this year, I decided to sign up again.
Another bonus is that this CSAs pickup location is at a homeless shelter, so anything I don’t think we’ll eat will be donated to those who can use it.
I feel really good about our decision.

Yesss! Tom and Katie do so many things right and do so much good in the community.
The Local Cook
yes, another reason I chose to go with them 🙂

Good for you! Our garden keeps up busy in the warm weather months, but we’re delighted to be part of a winter CSA (through the Kitchen Garden Farm in Sunderland and Hadley, Massachusetts), so we can eat local veggies year round. Besides the homeless shelter donation option, you might think about “sharing a share” with someone.
