October is Fair Trade Month! As you may recall from my Food & Faith Challenge, Fair Trade is a way to be sure that more of the money from your purchases are going directly to farmers and artisans.
A delicious place to start with Fair Trade is by making sure that your coffee is certified. Looking for more ideas? Here are three great options:
- Check out the widget on sidebar which links to Fair Trade Month for more information about why Fair Trade is important.
- Consider Reverse Trick-or-Treating on Halloween, a program by Equal Exchange to help trick-or-treaters spread the word about Fair Trade chocolate.
- Print and distribute cards requesting more Fair Trade items at your local supermarket

I didn’t realize it was Fair Trade Month–how cool! And the beauty of Fair Trade is how amazingly delicious the foods are, and at the same time just. Fair Trade chocolate and coffee rock!

Awesome. Love the reverse Trick or Treating idea! Thank you for the reminder that this if Fair Trade month — it’s so easy for us to purchase and consume without thinking of the process it took that piece of candy, that can of coffee, that banana to get to us.
On a funny note, I once asked for the location of the fair trade coffee at my local co-op and a young, very energetic worker screamed at me, “There’s NO SUCH THING AS FAIR TRADE COFFEE!!”
I guess it’s all in how you look at it 🙂 I do appreciate his enthusiasm for the cause!
