Unlike most people, I truly dislike shopping. When I get to a store, I like to get what’s on my list and get out. That doesn’t work for larger projects, though, such as dreaming up a backyard makeover. Using the online #KmartOutdoor Living catalog and some fun online content collection tools, I was able to shop from my seat (not on my feet) and put together my wish list.
Right now, we do most of our outdoor entertaining in the front yard, mostly because we open up our garage and use it for cover while the boys are brewing beer in the driveway. However, I would love to start doing more entertaining that doesn’t involve brewing beer. Something more festive for summer celebrations and grilling parties, and perhaps even a 4th of July party or birthday party for friends.
Our existing backyard has a very small deck and a lot of overgrown experimental herb areas. It also doesn’t have much privacy as the fence is short. Someday I hope DH will put up a larger fence to block the view of the neighbor’s backyard. We also could use a large patio. How would I decorate a newly renovated backyard?
The very cool Polyvore collage below gives a great overview of the outdoor furniture and outdoor decor that I’d use if I had unlimited budget: (Polyvore, as I’ve discovered, is even more fun to use than that other pinning site).
I had a lot of fun dreaming while I went through the online catalog and also searched through the website. For more information about the process I used and things I noticed when shopping, you can visit my Google + Album. For your own inspiration, I found it easiest to start at their “social circular,” kmartoutdoorliving.com. It includes designs from real shoppers and easy links to the outdoor sections of the Kmart online catalog.
I started by picking out my favorite gazebo. I fell in love with this one, Garden Oasis:
Check out the lighted posts! Perfect since our backyard is full of trees, this would definitely add to the party flavor. The name, Garden Oasis, also helped give me a direction for a theme of sorts. Some of my favorite items:
Once I picked out my favorite items and clipped them to Polyvore, I made a list on List.ly which I discovered is a very convenient way of making a list to print out, to prioritize items, and share. You can see my wish list below:
If I had unlimited budget, I would SO be able to create a dream “Garden Oasis” in my own backyard. Sigh.

I have a lovely back yard facing the water but I could always use new stuff. Some of these items are lovely.

I’m not sure why you would want parties that don’t involve brewing beer 🙂 Thanks for sharing the cool gazebo with lighted poles, I hadn’t ever even heard of that as a feature, but now I want it.
