This month’s cause is something I’m very familiar with – Micah Challenge USA. I know the executive director and I love that its mission is to remind us what’s important this election season.
As you’ll recall, as part of my goal to raise awareness about global poverty on this blog, I’ve decided to use this space to promote the 58: Global Impact Tour. Each month will feature a different country and issue.
This election season Micah Challenge USA is mobilizing thousands of Christians in the US to speak up for people in extreme poverty. Inspired by the biblical prophets we are urging our next president to secure justice for the poor, specifically by pledging to support poverty focused development assistance. We are asking both presidential candidates to publicly commit to preserving the 1/2 of 1% of the budget that goes to fund poverty fighting projects around the world. Our advocacy works through grassroots efforts like our presidential challenge petition drive.
We have already seen the potential impact our nations President can have on the lives of the global poor. President George W. Bush launched the Presidents Emergency Plan for Aids Relief in 2002-since then 6.9 million people with HIV/AIDS have received lifesaving anti-retroviral therapy. These are lives saved, families preserved, and communities improved.
Help us ensure that our next President follows through on our nation’s promises and preserves poverty focused development assistance by donating to this project and signing the petition.
