One of the tips I picked up when I joined my CSA is to have bottled Asian sauces on hand for quick meals. While it would be ideal to make them from scratch, I have to say that some nights it’s nice to just chop up some vegetables and sprinkle some sauce on top.
The other night, while DH was grilling the venison steak, I decided to try the bottle of spicy Thai peanut sauce that I picked up at the health food store.
Note: DH was doing a little cheating of his own, as he decided to try out the Lawhorn’s Spice that I received for review. It turned out wonderful!
I heated sesame oil in a large skillet, then added bok choy, mushrooms, and napa cabbage. When it was nice and wilted I added the peanut sauce. Delicious and not too spicy at all!

Looks yummy! Thanks for sharing! How much sesame oil do you use for a stir-fry? Do you use any other oil with it?? 🙂

Nope, just a tablespoon or so of sesame oil. LOVE that stuff.

Love your post! I agree, stir fry can be very quick! Sounds great, do you have anything on here about your CSA? Isn’t that crop sharing? Totally want to do that, haven’t done it yet.

Yes, it’s where you pay an up front fee at the beginning of the season and then each week you get your “share” of whatever is in season. A great source for info is localharvest.org

I so agree with you on the time saving thing. I do wish that I didn’t have to clean up after cooking, however :-).
I love sesame oil too, but never buy it since my oldest has a life threatening allergy to the stuff. Maybe I can make two batches :-).
The Local Cook
Oh my goodness, I’ve not heard of allergies to sesame oil. I would be very sad.
Adrienne
He’s got a number of life-threatening food allergies. Sesame is one of them and the good sesame oil is expeller pressed so the protein is still in there. If you have a brand that you like and it isn’t expeller or cold pressed, I’d be interested, but I think I researched all this awhile ago.

What a great strategy. And your post title is SO true. Sometimes when I’m too lazy to make dinner, I think about how long it’ll take to decide what I want for takeout and then to drive over and pick it up. A simple pasta or stir fry would take less time and is healthier and much tastier. Thanks for the reminder!

Thanks for reminding me of that. I had quite forgotten. I have the meals for the next couple of days, but this would be a great accompanyment to hamburgers or anything off the grill.

I use stir-fry as my go to fast food too! In fact when my first grader was making a little book about me for Mothers’ Day, he listed my favorite food as stir fry since I make it so often. 🙂
