One of the questions people always ask me when I tell them I try to eat local foods as much as possible is, “what about winter?” Although truthfully, I don’t get asked that question quite as much any more.
See, we have a year-round local food co-op and also a couple of farmer’s markets that go year-round. Yes, even in Michigan!
Nevertheless, I will be joining the Dark Days Challenge again this year. The basic premise is that you cook at least one meal per week using almost exclusively local foods, from just after Thanksgiving to March 31. You can click through on the Dark Days link above to read more about it.
