When Collective Bias asked for bloggers who wanted to go ice cream shopping, I said, “Yes please!” They wanted us to explore the idea of picnics and ice cream. Yesterday was the perfect day–super hot, so I decided to head over to Walmart to pick up items for an impromptu backyard picnic.
I don’t normally go shopping at Walmart, but that was the directions. I decided to approach it as though DH and I were camping at the RV, and if we had forgotten any food, and Walmart was the only store open, and we needed to eat. This happens more than I’d like to admit–sometimes we are in a hurry to get out of dodge for the weekend and decide to pick up supplies on the way or after we set up camp. In small towns, if you don’t get there before the local store closes, Walmart is sometimes the only option!
First up was the ice cream. Part of the requirements was to get something from Nestle (which also makes Edy’s). Let’s see, they have Breyer’s and store brand in this section of the case. No Edy’s to be found.
Oh wait a minute, these drumsticks are cute! And they’re by Nestle! I haven’t had these since I was a kid. My mom used to get them all the time–for herself. We were usually content with Freeze Pops (do they still make those?). I loved the variety pack aspect. Plus no spoons or ice cream scoops needed. Perfect for a picnic!
Next up is the actual meal part. Hmmm. These strawberries looked good at first glance, but upon closer inspection weren’t ripe. Fail.
Potato salad–what’s a picnic without potato salad? (Note: It wasn’t as good as the kind at Meijer’s deli, just so you know!)
Cute sandwich meat. Decided to go with a turkey wrap for the picnic (also not as good as from the deli, but in a pinch it will do!).
I also picked up some cheese for the turkey wrap. On a side note, my dogs LOVE Kraft cheese slices. They come running whenever they hear the paper being opened.
When I got home, DH was home from work and super hot too. We don’t have an air conditioner, just a window unit for our bedroom. So he was glad we didn’t have to cook–just have an impromptu picnic.
The Drumsticks were just the ticket on such a hot day. I’ll confess that we both had two of them. My favorite was the vanilla with caramel center. Mmmm.
This shop/project has been compensated as part of a campaign for Nestlé. All opinions are my own.

Yep. That exact box is my husband’s favorite store bought ice cream treat.

Meijer Potato Salad is the BEST! Their cole slaw recipe changed and that is not as good…but the potato salad is good stuff!

Yep, I know the feeling of Walmart being the only store open after a certain time.:) And I am guilty….my husband and I were forced to share our last box of Drumsticks, but we’re guilty of keeping them hid.:) And buying Freezepops for the kids….yes, they still make them! LOL The kids and I sat on the back porch steps eating them this morning, as a matter of fact.:)
