I actually have been thinking about this on and off over the past couple of years. I have two dogs, Nero and Grigio. They’re Italian Greyhounds and adorable if I do say so myself.
I was compensated by Del Monte to go shopping for Kibbles ‘n Bits Bistro at WalMart (you can see my shopping experience over at Whrrl http://whrrl.com/e/iVhs7 ). I decided to participate even though I normally buy them Solid Gold at the Pet Store, since they were asking me to buy a bag for a local shelter. I thought it would be a nice thing to do.
They LOVED the Kibbles ‘n Bits, and I am planning to use them as snacks. I figure it’s kind of like junk food for people, ya know? Dog Food Reviews gives all Kibbles ‘n Bits products one star out of five. You can read the review for yourself.
Back to the original question, how would one feed their dog locally? In the past, I considered feeding them raw. Remember the squirrel casserole? I considered feeding them that, plus bones that I could get from the local dairy farm. It seemed like a lot of confusing ratios, though.
The other option would be people food, but that’s not really good for them either. Leftovers would probably get the same rating as the kibble.
So if one does choose dry dog food, one could see if it is produced locally. Wysong, for example, is produced in Michigan (and a 5 star food rating to boot!).
Does anyone have advice?
