Green Giant Veggie Chips Key Visual 3Recently I was sent two flavors of new Green Giant™ Roasted Veggie Tortilla Chip – Garden Ranch and Green Giant Multigrain Sweet Potato Chip – Barbecue to review. So, what’s the verdict?

First, I have to say I never knew that Green Giant made potato chips. I always associated them with the canned and frozen vegetables (Ho Ho Ho, Green Giant.) I guess as a tie in they state on the bag that it’s made with “real” vegetables. This is a claim that pretty much any potato chip or corn chip can make. A look at the ingredients on the back of the bag indicates that yes, this is your standard snacking chip. However, as I don’t have time to make real chips out of vegetables, I do occasionally purchase chips for snacking. So how do these stack up?

The Veggie Tortilla Chips (Garden Ranch)

The texture was similar to that of other triangle-shaped tortilla chips. The flavor was excellent. The calories are very slightly less than other brands of ranch flavored tortilla chips, but I do have to say that I prefer this flavor to others I have had. You can’t taste the “vegetables” that they claim are in here, but it’s still a decent chip.

The Multigrain Sweet Potato Chips (Barbecue)

I didn’t anticipate liking these because I’m not a huge fan of artificial barbecue flavor, but both DH and I considered this the winning chip between the two, hands down. It wasn’t too sweet, and I appreciated the multigrain flavor. DH much preferred the texture of this chip to the tortilla chip, which was a bit thick and not as crispy as desired.

The Verdict: While not a “healthy” snack, the flavors of these chips are really good. They don’t leave a greasy aftertaste and the flavors aren’t too artificial-tasting or overpowering. I can definitely see picking some of these up for a party or for something to scoop up some homemade salsa or other summertime dips. Yum!
