First, the winner of the LitterFree Lunch Napkins: Ms. Michalek of her blog by the same name! She did a great job of exploring farming in Minnesota by the numbers (check out her blog for some interesting stats!) and like me, bought some seeds to plant recently.
What really struck me in reading through the comments this week is the idea of God the Creator. I know, we say it all the time, eh? Kind of loses its punch after awhile. But when I got the package of seeds in the mail, I realized what a miracle it really is. These little seeds, that look like nothing; you stick them in the ground and God does the rest. Pretty soon they turn into plants and you can eat them! How weird is that?
DH planted some hops from seed a couple of years ago, and now they are taller than our house. I’m not sure if this is “green,” but he chopped down a (small) tree so I could have some sun for a small garden. This is the first time growing something. Last year I helped plant some things at my Dad’s house but he did the day to day tending. And of course I do get to pick some of the U pick items at the CSA. But I decided that this year I want to see the miracle of life for myself.
