When Blinds.com asked me to participate in the Blinds.com Roller Shade Challenge, I knew right away that I was going to vinyl it. And so did DH. Ever since I got my Silhouette Cameo Electronic Cutting Tool, I have been vinyling everything in sight.
Now, the roller shade doesn’t actually fit any of my windows. But that’s OK because DH finished converting our screened in porch into a three season room and there is one wall that really needs some art! (The one not covered in windows, between our living room and the new room).
The roller shade turned out to be the perfect size. Since it it can be rolled up for easy storage or switched out, I decided to do something seasonal. I found an image in the Silhouette Online Store and ended up making this:
Now, I realize it looks like some of the letters are swirling in the breeze. That is because I used matte (indoor) vinyl, thinking it would be nice to be able to remove it in case I wanted to change it up each season. Unfortunately, the indoor vinyl does NOT stick to the roller shade material very well, so it stuck more to the transfer sheet than the shade. Two alternatives would be to use outdoor vinyl or use the vinyl as a stencil and use fabric paint.
I still think it turned out cute, though. If you have not worked with vinyl before, check out my Silhouette Vinyl Tutorial.

What a great idea!! I have blinds, not roller shades, but you better believe when it comes time to replace them I’ll be considering this idea … Great thinking!!

This is such a super cool idea! And I love that you can change it up depending on the season, genius!
