Last week I posted about going shopping for my furbabies. I put together the above “gift basket” and couldn’t wait to see how our boys, Nero and Grigio, would react!
I decided to experiment to see which treats the boys liked the best. DH and I both took one of each treat and set them on the floor in random order. Then, we let the boys in and DH called Grigio and I called Nero. They ate them in the exact same order!
Milo’s Kitchen Treats were the clear winner, as both dogs went straight for them. I don’t think Grigio even chewed. Next popular was the Pup-Peroni Treats – which was a bit of a surprise, since they were “smellier” than the Milo’s Kitchen Treats. Must be they liked the more natural smell of Milo’s. Last for both of them was the Milk-Bone® Treats.
Then, I unwrapped the toys and set them on the floor, again to see which ones the boys preferred.
Grigio went right for the stuffed animal. Yep. Soon we had stuffing all over the floor. Next he ran around with the string ball toy. He lost the tennis balls under the couch. He pretty much ignored the rope toy. Over the past couple of days he has wanted to play fetch with the string ball toy.
Nero? He wasn’t very interested in any of it. I like to consider him my bookworm.

Our dog will only eat raw meaty bones from the butcher. He seeks out the marrow and then spends the rest of the day chewing on the bone. Outdoors only, though, I don’t let him inside with these treats. Also, he loves raw chicken wings and fresh liver of any kind. We don’t give him pre-made dog treats, nor do we vaccinate him, nor does he get grain in any form. He eats only real food, nothing pre-cooked, and never gets cooked bones, only raw.
We also don’t let him chew shoes. :->) He tried that as a puppy and my newspaper on his rump a few times cured that bad habit. Since that time, he’s not interested in chewing anything, least of all dog toys that squeak. He will occasionally chew on a tennis ball when we play fetch, but he’s not a “chewer” which is what we prefer. It didn’t take long to train him not to do this, as I said.
A different way of raising a dog, yes, but he’s very well behaved and people enjoy being around him. He’s also not a “barker” unless he spies something unusual. Not exactly a good guard dog (he’d lick a burglar to death) but we didn’t buy him as a guard dog. He’s very healthy, well-behaved and fun.

that’s awesome that you are able to feed your dog raw. I looked into it for my dogs and cats but can’t justify the extra $ and effort at this time. Baby steps! We do feed a good quality food though (Solid Gold). It’s the same that our breeder uses and since she dog-sits from time to time it’s very convenient.

Rex is a HUGE fan of the Milo’s Kitchen beef sausages! The Mom has to agree; they looked wonderful and I love the website!
Your pups are so handsome!
