This is the latest installment of DH’s quest for the perfect burger cook-off competition recipe. It’s from the book Char-Broil’s Everybody Grills! I’ve enjoyed having some time off from the kitchen, and surprisingly I’m not sick of burgers yet! Probably because these are all so different.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 6 strips lean bacon, cooked but not crisp, chopped
- 1 C shredded cheese
- 1 C sweet onion, chopped
- 3 T olive oil
- 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 4 T unsalted butter
- 2 tsp salt
- freshly ground black pepper
- 3 buns
Directions:
- Gently mix together in a large bowl the ground beef, bacon, cheese, onion, olive oil, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic. Form into three patties and chill for at least 30 minutes. Salt and pepper to taste.
- Melt butter and brush one side, place on grill, reduce heat to medium (the other side will stay hot), cook for 7 minutes with lid closed.
- Brush side up with butter and flip and move to the high heat side. Reduce that side’s heat and cook with lid closed for 5 minutes. Let rest covered with foil for 2 minutes.
- Place on buns and serve.
The Verdict: I thought it was great. DH said, “A very tasty burger and ever so juicy. Not sure if it has what it takes to win though. I topped it with a little mayo, some romaine lettuce and honey mustard. It could have use a good slice of an heirloom tomato.”

Yummy. I like the burger recipes that do interesting things to the patties themselves, mostly because I eat my burgers sans buns. Thanks for sharing!

I’m a burger fanatic, I think I could eat burgers every day of the week, lol. I’m always looking for new recipes. This one sounds fantastic – bookmarked!
