I don’t know about yours, but my Dad is a great cook! I have fond memories of him making us buckwheat pancakes growing up, and he still is a grilling machine. If you have a foodie father, here are some gift ideas! Don’t forget, Father’s Day is June 20!
1. Local craft brew (beer or root beer)
Pick up a pack of Dad’s favorite local beer (or root beer), or open his horizons to the world of local microbrews. If desired, pair it with something fun like a Black Leather Beer Holster or locally made bottle opener.
2. Char Broil Big Easy Infrared Smoker, Roaster, and Grill
OK, I highly doubt you’ll fork over this much cash for dear old Dad, but when I asked DH for Father’s Day gift ideas for this post he said “tell them the smoker roaster grill!” Yes, this is the very one that he has been going on and on about (and cooking on a lot, so I can’t complain). You can always go in with your siblings, or do another gift that’s grill-themed–like some local grassfed meat! What Dad wouldn’t love a box of steaks? Many farms also do gift certificates and email lists for sale.
If your Dad is remotely crunchy (which is likely, we get it from somewhere!) he might enjoy a subscription to Mother Earth News. I’ll never forget I was telling him about this “new” magazine I came across. He about died laughing–he had been reading it in the 70s, before I was born!
For the pancake-making papa, why not upgrade his griddle to a new cast iron model? Throw in some local maple syrup (if you live in an area that produces it) and/or pancake mix. My farmer’s market has some great spelt pancake mixes.
I don’t know about you, but I think those travel mugs that look like Styrofoam or paper are cool beans. If your Dad drinks coffee or tea in the morning, I bet he’d love one of these! Add some locally roasted or fair trade coffee and you’re good to go.
6. Charcoal Companion Grilled PizzaQue Pizza Peel
Back to the grilling theme, but with a twist. Dad can make pizza on the grill! Why not also give him some potted Italian herbs?
7. A Home Cooked Meal
My Dad actually is not a big gift person . . . I think that must be where I get it from! So lots of times, I will get him a card and write “I will make you dinner on a weekend evening of your choice.” Then I get to go all out and make a nice dinner. The gift of time is often way better than anything store-bought.
8. Homemade Gourmet Spice Rubs
OK, I KNOW I keep going back to the grilling theme – but hey, it IS summer! Here is a helpful article I found on how to make your own rubs.
9. The Gift of Time
I’m showing my “love language” again. But some of the most precious gifts have been the gift of time. Does your Dad like to fish? Golf? A “gift certificate” for a day of fishing or golfing is a great idea for those who have everything they need.
10. Gift Cards
If your Dad is really impossible to shop for, and if “gifts” are part of your love language, you can always go the gift card route. Amazon.com offers four options:
1) E-mail a personalized gift card for immediate delivery or schedule up to a year in advance.
2) Print a personalized gift card on your home or office printer.
3) Mail a personalized gift card with a free greeting card for delivery in 5 to 7 days (shipping is free, of course).
4) Add a gift card in preset denominations – or a box of them! – to your Amazon.com shopping cart and get free next-day shipping.
What ideas do you have to add?
