carrots, diced
pearl barley
bay leaves

parsley, chopped
Brown beef and onion in a large soup pot over medium heat (about 10 minutes).
Add everything except parsley, bring to a boil, cover and and simmer for 30 minutes.
Add parsley and simmer until barley is cooked and meat is tender (another 10 minutes or so).
